In the recession, my thoughts of depression
Witness the effects of this economic regression
Profits go down as unemployment expands
In this society established on supply and demand
But just how do these jobs and products correlate
In the economy which tanked due to a sub prime lending rate
People couldn't spend with their bank accounts obliterated
With no hope of ever being liberated
Workers saw these effects to the extreme
Less demand for goods equals less American dream
No profit no wages, no consumer appeal
No job for me, this just got real
STOP! My unions and government should protect me
Physch, Just a small business man with no employees
The major corporations are subsidized
As for me, I'm just along for the ride.
Blame it on the recession.
Just blame it on the recession.
Blame it on the Blame it on the R,
Just blame it on the recession x2
So I got no job, no financial security
Live life by the dollar, just trying to protect me
Trading in my fancy car, maybe make a couple bucks
The truth is: my 88' civic just sucks
Phew, it looks like I can pay the bills
As for food on my table, i don't get no thrills
Surprise, looks like I'll be getting me some fast food
Forget the costly organics like oranges and grapefruits
There's one more option to get a decent meal
The food bank, even though it doesn't appeal
To me, do I really want to wait in this line?
But it's the only thing, I could manage to find
The last step, no money, just my clothes and my shirt
I look in the paper to find me some work
But with the massive unskilled labor pool I have to beat
It looks like my only choice is working the street
Blame it on the recession.
Just blame it on the recession.
Blame it on the Blame it on the R,
Just blame it on the recession x2
...As I'm waving my sign and see these people passing by,
A particular trend caught my eye,
Everybody has their headphones in their ears,
Heads bouncing and I'm shouting but nobody hears
So I..started rapping and people started noticing me
And I was like, "Finally, now I can afford my groceries"
...I brought the sounds in their head to the stage on the streets
Since music was in demand, I put words to the beats
...Then a man from the music industry found me and
Told me he was looking for someone this astounding and I know he
Needs me since the market's demanding the skills I have handy
So I took the pen and signed the deal gladly
And all took was a second look at the skills I was good at
I tried again and found my niche in the market
If there's one thing I learned from this whole affair,
It's "Don't try to be a barber if nobody has hair"
I made it through the recession.
I made it through the recession.
I made it through the made it through the R,
Don't blame it on the recession x2
